The Moab Grille: A Modular Masterpiece for Your Element

Hey folks—Jason here from the carport.

Lately, we’ve been diving deep into grille shields, especially those with the Hex Mesh background. Why? Because Hex Mesh unlocks so many customization opportunities—modular lighting, badges, accessories—you name it. It’s become our go-to platform for building truly personalized front-end setups for Honda Elements.

We’ve had a ton of orders come through lately, and it’s been a blast seeing these creations head out into the world. Today, I want to showcase one particularly loaded build—something we affectionately call The Moab Grille: the Mother Of All Boss Badges.

What Makes the Moab Grille Special?

This customer went all-in on the upgrades, opting for every available feature—from our signature Hex Mesh backing to full Raptor lighting, a preassembled Raptor-lined frame, and the stunning eLumi Badge featuring our Equinox font.

They even had us fully preassemble it for a plug-and-play install. When you select this option, your grille shield arrives completely ready to bolt on.

Let’s Break It Down:

🛠️ Hex Mesh Backing

Our most popular pattern, the Hex Mesh integrates beautifully with Raptor-style lighting and modular components. Its geometric cutouts are functional and badass.

🔦 Raptor-Style Lighting

The grille features five waterproof amber Raptor lights up top. These snap into place using weatherproof connectors, and the wiring harness is fully plug-and-play. Made a mistake running your wires? No problem—just unplug and reroute.

🌌 eLumi Badge – Equinox Font

Backlit with RGB LEDs, the eLumi Badge really shines—especially at night. The kit comes with:

  • A remote control (for color & animation)
  • An optional app interface
  • A four-way splitter
  • Two extra LED strips for underglow or lower grille lighting
  • Adhesive pads, brackets, and even a cigarette lighter power adapter

🧩 Modular Mount System

This install used our Modular Mount—the most versatile (and involved) option. It takes about 90 minutes to install and requires clearing out the OEM mesh from the back side of your grille frame.

We recommend a multi-tool followed by a sanding wheel on a drill for the best results. You won’t see that area from the front—but we still like to keep it clean.

Compatibility

We love working with the 2003–2006 Honda Element grille frames because they give us the most space to work with. But:

  • 2007–2008 non-SC Elements: Fit just fine
  • 2009–2011 Elements: We’re offering select options now
  • SC Models: Custom versions are available!

Ghost Gets the Moab Treatment

I’ve fully embraced this setup on my own Element, Ghost. I’ve installed:

  • Hex Mesh upper grille with the eLumi badge
  • Raptor lights across the top
  • Optional Raptor lights in the lower grille opening

Yes—that’s an add-on! You can choose where your lights go: top, bottom, or both.

Want to Customize Yours?

New parts and configurations are added to the website as fast as we can design and test them. But if you don’t see your dream combo—reach out! We can usually make it happen.

Whether it’s a special color, custom badge text, or unique lighting layout, we’re here to help you bring your vision to life.

Put your heart into it,

Bring Your Faded Plastics Back to Life

Plastic Restoration Toaster Grease is a premium solution developed by the team at ToasterParts. Designed specifically for your Honda Element, this grease-based formula revives dull plastic and adds a subtle satin sheen. Unlike typical dressings, it avoids the slippery mess or fake, overly glossy shine found in most off-the-shelf products.

Where It Works Best

This Honda Element plastic trim restorer is ideal for:

✅ Bumper trim
✅ Side moldings
✅ Fender flares
✅ Cowl pieces and mirror caps
✅ Interior plastics that have seen better days

In other words, if it’s faded, this grease can bring it back.

Why It Outperforms Other Products

Compared to quick-shine sprays, Toaster Grease actually penetrates the plastic. As a result, it delivers deeper, longer-lasting protection with a natural-looking OEM finish. In addition, it’s easy to use—just wipe it on with a microfiber or sponge.

Even better, a little goes a long way.

Built on DIY Know-How

For years, Honda Element owners have been creating their own plastic restorer mixes. While those DIY methods work, they often require messy measuring and cleanup. ToasterParts simplified the process by doing the mixing for you.

Therefore, you just open the jar, apply, and enjoy factory-fresh results.

How We Use It at Element DIY

This product plays a key role in our own detailing process. Before every photo shoot, we apply Toaster Grease to the trim on used parts. As a result, they look clean, rich, and ready for install.

It’s not just a touch-up—it’s a transformation.

Simple Instructions for Long-Lasting Results

  1. Clean the surface thoroughly.
  2. Apply a small amount of Toaster Grease with a microfiber or applicator pad.
  3. Let it sit for a few minutes.
  4. Buff off any excess with a clean towel.
  5. Reapply as needed—especially after washes or deep restorations.

For best results, work in a shaded area and avoid applying to hot surfaces.

Safe and Effective Formula

Ingredients: Time-tested blend of plastic-safe oils and waxes.
(Note: Not recommended for painted surfaces or glass.)

👻 The GHOST BUILD Begins

The Next Chapter of Element DIY Starts Now

I’m writing this from an excellent coffee house in Lewisville, NC called The Coffee Mill. If you’re ever in the area, I highly recommend it for good coffee and even better vibes.

This isn’t a rumor. It’s happening. The Ghost Build is live — and it’s unlike anything we’ve done before.

After a year of planning, sketching, and testing materials, I’m kicking off a new flagship build that will become the next workhorse for Element DIY.

Honda Element AWD Ghost Build Base
The starting point — a clean AWD Element with a bad 5MT.

The vision is simple: stealth, strength, and modular upgrades that show off what’s possible when DIY meets real-world adventure.

What Makes the Ghost Build Special:

  • Bold aesthetic. Aggressive style. High performance.
  • Upgraded mods based on years of Element DIY feedback.
  • Prototypes of the newest concepts coming out of the carport.

The Ghost Build will highlight our latest product designs and collaborations, and showcase the craftsmanship of some of the best Element builders across the country.

First Stop: North Carolina

We’re kicking things off in North Carolina with Avery — the mind behind the original Colburn Cubbies. Avery has pioneered and perfected multiple electrical and lighting mods. As a professional automotive audio and electrical installer, he focuses on preserving the OEM look while enhancing function. His upgrades are clean, clever, and built to last.

Colburn Cubbies by Avery
Avery’s Colburn Cubbies — the gold standard in door storage.

Next, we’re heading to the Element Society’s Movie Night in Eden, NC on 7/19, where we’ll be collaborating with camping.element and Toaster Parts.

After that comes one of the biggest pieces of the puzzle: the installation of some major upgrades with Classic Automotive NC. First up is a JDM 6MT swap — but that’s just the beginning. We’re also working on brake upgrades for towing, rear trailing arm supports, and a few still-classified enhancements we’re keeping under wraps for now.

Finally, I’m excited to link up with Justin for a full Raptor liner job. I’ve never met him in person, but his work speaks for itself — and it’s seriously impressive.

Why It Matters

This rig will be hitting the road for future Element meet-ups, shows, and trailheads nationwide. It’s a rolling showcase of what we stand for: practical, durable, adventure-ready gear that anyone can install and enjoy.

Ghost Build in Progress
Watch the transformation unfold — we’ll be posting updates every step of the way.

Our first major destination: the PNW Meet. 2025 will mark our first time making the 5,000+ mile round trip to Seattle.

Follow along on socials and through email. I’ll be sharing behind-the-scenes progress, product sneak peeks, and the stories behind every mod that makes it into the Ghost Build.

We’re definitely putting our heart into this one.

💙 Put Your Heart in It: The ElementDIY Community Story

Hi Friends,

We want to take a moment to thank you for being part of the ElementDIY family. Your support and passion fuel everything we do!

Since the beginning, ElementDIY has been more than just parts and accessories. It’s about the passion that drives the Honda Element. It’s about the people who love these cars, the adventures we take, and the memories we create. That’s why our tagline, ‘Put your heart in it,’ truly captures our mission. We’re dedicated to growing our community of Honda Element enthusiasts.

💙 The Heart of ElementDIY

The heart has always been central to our mission. If you’ve been with us from the start, you might remember the original ElementDIY logo. It featured a simple, opened-door Element with a heart inside. That logo represented more than just the car. It embodied the spirit of community, creativity, and connection. Today, our current logo reflects that spirit too. In fact, it draws inspiration from the first line sketch I made with Inkscape. I based it on a picture of Hank—my first Honda Element—with the clamshell doors open. Ultimately, it’s a tribute to where it all began.

🚗 Community in Action: Elements on the Dragon

This past weekend, I attended Elements on the Dragon, and it was hands down the best one I’ve experienced. For the first time, I offered installs of our popular Rear Hatch Release Kit and E-Dash Dock Phone Mount. As a result, I had the chance to meet other Element owners and see how unique each build is. More than 150 Elements gathered, and I felt grateful to connect with so many passionate owners. The community’s support, inclusiveness, and energy clearly reflect the adventurous spirit of the Honda Element.

🛠️ Reflecting on the Journey

Looking back on the weekend and the journey so far, I realize how special this community is. Every Honda Element has its own story. Each one is shaped by the places it travels and the people it carries. The car may be rugged and practical, but it’s the heart that keeps it moving. Likewise, it’s that same heart that drives ElementDIY.

Troubleshooting Honda Element’s P2646 and P2647 Codes: A Comprehensive Guide

Owning a Honda Element comes with all kinds of wonderful things, but encountering the P2646 and/or P2647 codes sure isn’t one of them.  The resulting “limp mode” can ruin any drive. Tracking down the issue can be a daunting experience. Don’t fret; let’s dive deeper into understanding and troubleshooting this persistent issue.

If you’re facing the persistent P2646 and P2647 codes in your Honda Element, causing the engine to enter “limp mode” at approximately 3,000 RPM, you’re not alone. Contrary to common misconception, these codes aren’t linked to a speed governor but are a result of low oil pressure at the VTEC oil pressure switch.

Troubleshooting Steps

Here are suggestions, ordered from least complex and costly to more involved solutions:

1. Check Oil Level: Inadequate oil levels can trigger these codes. Sometimes, a refill or oil change followed by code reset can resolve the issue.

2. Reset the Code: If you’re sure you have enough oil in the car, using a code scanner to reset the code can buy you some time.  It can get you to your destination and allow you some time to investigate some more.

3. Moisture-Related Electrical Checks:

    • If the problem arises post-rain or exposure to moisture, it likely involves an electrical issue compounded by water.
    • Replace the oil pressure switch harness with an upgraded OEM harness.  Ours custom connectors are hand built out of Honda Genuine OE connectors with Tefzel wiring (color matched to the stock wiring), and then they are double sealed so that water intrusion is never an issue again. Included in the pack are heat shrink butt connectors to make installation quick and easy.
    • Examine wire harnesses for loose connections, seal wire entry points with high-temperature sealant like Hondabond to prevent water from getting in the connections.
    • Disconnect harnesses, use compressed air to remove moisture, and apply dielectric grease for better connections.
    • Consider harness replacement if needed

While on the topic, let’s address a common entry point moisture; wiper fluid nozzle.

      • The passenger-side windshield wiper nozzle is located very close to right above the Vtec.
      • The rubber gasket around the plug can deteriorate allowing water to pass though the opening in the hood and settle on top of the Vtec.
      • Remove the nozzle and seal around the opening using silicone or another sealant that you have one hand (I actually use roofing tar tape)
      • Replace the nozzle and wipe away the excess with a clean rag.

4. Potential System Clogs: Clogs might exist in various parts of the Vtec system, particularly in two screens.

    • First Screen (VTEC Solenoid): Remove the solenoid using a 10mm wrench or socket.  There are three bolts holding it in place.  You’ll have to feel around to locate them (picture). Inspect the screen for debris or damage, and replace if necessary (part number: Honda 15815-RAA-A02 Filter Assy., Spool Valve).
    • Second Screen (Behind Power Steering Pump): Accessing this screen is more complex, requiring belt and pump removal. Check and clean if the first screen indicates significant clogging (part number: Honda 15845-RAA-A01 Filter Assy., Vtc).

5. Solenoid Replacement:

    • If you’re looking to save money, this will be your last resort (Removal/Installation Instructions)
    • Only use OEM parts like the Honda 15810-RAA-A03 Valve Assembly, Spool, to ensure reliability.
    • Over-tightening the bolts on installation, can cause damage to the screen.  Use 8 pound torque or hand tight plus another 1/4 to 1/2 turn.

6. Beware Counterfeit Solenoids

    • Only buy from trusted sources or authorized dealers, as cloned parts flood the market.
    • Genuine replacements can cost around $245 or more.
    • Your best bet is to get it from a dealer (I also have them on my site).  If you start surfing amazon or ebay, you’re taking a gamble.  There are a lot of clones out there that claim to be OEM but they are not.
    • They are becoming unavailable at many providers so I would expect the price to keep going up. If the price is significantly lower than $200,  you’re likely being scammed.
    • You used to be able to tell the OEM one apart from the others based on the star shape of the head of the bolt at the top of the unit, but even that it’s always enough anymore. (picture)
    • Scammers may show an OEM one in the picture but ship you a clone.

Conclusion

Regular maintenance and diligent troubleshooting are key to addressing the P2646 and P2647 codes in your Honda Element. By paying attention to oil levels, moisture exposure, and potential system clogs, you can effectively resolve this issue and restore your vehicle’s performance without breaking the bank.
