Meet Avery Colburn, the mastermind behind one of our most popular products, the Door E-Cubby. With a lifelong passion for flying inherited from his balloon pilot parents, Avery’s journey into the skies led him to discover the versatile world of paramotors. In 2020, he made the switch, trading in his supercharged Civic for a 2008 Element that could seamlessly accommodate his airborne adventures.
A full-time electronics installer for both automobiles and mobile homes, Avery specializes in a spectrum of enhancements. From car alarms to cutting-edge sound systems, remote starts, and power systems, including solar installations, Avery’s expertise extends across the automotive and mobile living landscapes.
Drawing on a decade of experience in 3D printing and fueled by a desire to unlock the full potential of his Element, Avery embarked on a mission. Leveraging his skills in car electronics installation, he began tinkering and crafting upgrades and modifications for his beloved E.
Avery’s ingenuity extends beyond the Door E-Cubby. He has designed and built a repertoire of custom lighting features for the Element, showcasing his commitment to enhancing every aspect of the driving experience. Leather Steering Wheel & Optional Clockspring – Used (Honda Pilot → Honda Element Swap)
Give your Honda Element a well‑deserved upgrade with a genuine leather steering wheel. This wheel comes from a Honda Pilot, but it’s a direct, factory‑fit swap for every 2003–2011 Element. No weird mods, no wiring headaches — just a nicer wheel with a better feel.
Compatibility (The Important Stuff)
- Direct plug‑and‑play fit for all 2003–2011 Elements
- Airbag transfers over perfectly
- Audio controls work exactly the same as long as your Element already has them
- Mounting points and internal structure are identical between Pilot and Element wheels
Adding Audio Controls to an Element That Doesn’t Have Them
If your Element didn’t come with audio controls, you can add them — you’ll just need:
- A Pilot clockspring
- A custom harness (available here)
- A compatible head unit
When installing the Pilot clockspring in an Element, you’ll need to reverse the polarity of the cruise‑control wires. I’ll have a full how‑to video up soon showing the whole process.
If you already have the wheel and just want the clockspring, you can also purchase that by itself.
Condition of the Wheel
- Leather is in good used condition
- No major rips or damage
- Normal, age‑appropriate wear
Trim Pieces (Finishers)
- Includes the original silver/grey Pilot finishers (the plastic trim around the airbag)
- Controls and airbags swap between the two styles without issue
- There are two versions of the wheels for these years. The only difference between them trim shape. Finishers are not interchangeable between all years.
Optional Refinishing
If you want the trim refreshed:
- OEM grey/silver refinishing is available for a small fee
- Piano black is also available

Notes
This leather wheel is a great OEM‑style upgrade if your original one is peeling, worn, or coming apart at the usual hand‑grip spots. The Pilot wheel gives you the same fit and function with a cleaner, more premium feel.

Not only is the Honda Pilot steering wheel a direct fit with the Honda Element, it is a massive upgrade. Enjoy the feel and warmth of genuine leather as you hug the corners on your favorite road. Improved grip and feel. And why stop there? Add the Pilot Clock Spring to your order and wire the audio controls to your head unit!!! You will need to research how to complete the final connection to your specific head unit.
We also offer to refinished the plastic trim pieces on the steering wheel with OEM-color matched paint for a small fee. (pictured)
